New Delhi: Former opener Akash Chopra has said that if Rishabh Pant continues to play Test matches, he will leave behind MS Dhoni’s total runs in this format. Pant is on the path of recovery after injury in the recently concluded Test series against England.

Akash Chopra said on his YouTube channel on Sunday, “MS Dhoni is at the top in terms of Test matches and runs. He has played 144 innings in 90 matches, with 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09. He has scored six centuries. Pant has scored six centuries in the last five years and has scored a total of 8 Tests.”

He said, “If we look at overall, Rishabh Pant has scored eight centuries and MS Dhoni has scored six centuries. Rishabh Pant is already in second place in terms of number of runs. He is 1,400 runs behind MS Dhoni and has played almost half the matches. If he will play more, he will obviously be ahead of MS Dhoni.”

Chopra said, “Pant has scored 3,427 runs in 47 Test matches so far at an average of 44.50. His centuries are eight, which is two more than Dhoni’s six centuries. It would be right to say that Pant is the greatest wicketkeeper-bowler to play Tests for India.”

He said that if we look at the list of best wicketkeepers in the world so far, Adam Gilchrist has scored 5,570 runs in 96 matches at an average of 47.60. He is currently ahead of Pant, but can be left behind. Talking about the successful wicketkeeper-batsman of Test cricket, the name of former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara is in the first place. He scored 12,400 runs in 134 Tests. It has a total of 38 centuries. On the recent Test tour of England, Pant scored 479 runs in seven innings at an excellent average of 68.42. It also includes two centuries in the first match of the series in Handingley.
