Thailand, the second largest economy in Southeast Asia, was named the world’s cheapest travel destination with average spending of just US$81.87 a day, according to a new report by financial firm The Forex Complex.

To determine the results, the U.K. company weighed three factors: the average daily tourism- costs in U.S. dollars, the local inflation rate, and the year-to-year change in the destination’s currency strength compared to the dollar.

The study took into account several common expenses, including the cost of accommodations, transportation options, and the price of meals at 19 popular tourist destinations around the world.

The report pointed out a weakened currency (Thai baht) compared to the U.S. dollar makes Thailand an appealing destination for American tourists.

Iceland was named the most expensive popular tourism destination for 2025. The financial trading company found the average vacation cost in Iceland totaled more than $400 per day, the highest of any country included in the study.

It was followed by Australia and Mexico.

Thailand received more than 19 million foreign tourists in the first seven months of this year, down 6% year-on-year.

Many foreign tourists have long praised Thailand as an ideal destination for its affordable travel costs and diverse experiences.
