The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retaliated by the Congress on allegations of ‘vote theft’. Union Minister and senior BJP leader Anurag Thakur held a press conference at the party headquarters in Delhi and said that the Congress finds a new excuse after every election defeat, sometimes EVM, sometimes Election Commission, and sometimes questions on constitutional institutions. He said, “They are defeated and accuse the Election Commission and the BJP. Their condition is the same that the dust was on the face and the mirror keeps cleaning.”
Anurag Thakur claimed that the Congress had laid the foundation of electoral corruption in 1952 by defeating the constitution maker Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. He said that the Congress defeated Ambedkar with CPI, at that time 74,333 votes were rejected while Ambedkar lost by just 14,561 votes. “On 31 April 1952, Dr. Ambedkar filed an 18 -page petition, which mentioned electoral corruption.”
In the press conference, Thakur gave the example of Rae Bareli and said that 47 duplicate voters were found from the same house there. The voter named Mohammad Kaif Khan is named in the voter list of booth 83, 151 and 218. Polling booth 131 of house number 189 has 47 voter IDs including Mohammad Islam, Mohammad Qasim and Safia. Many voters are registered on the same house number 0011 in Diamond Harbor Lok Sabha constituency of West Bengal.
Thakur said that the Congress has been taking advantage of its people in the Election Commission as well. Giving the example of the appointment of Naveen Chawla by Sonia Gandhi in 2005, he said that the then Chief Election Commissioner Gopal Swamy had given a written complaint that Naveen Chawla talked to Sonia Gandhi and leaked confidential information. Thakur alleged that Election Commissioners RK Trivedi, Lyngdoh, Rama Devi and TN Seshan also joined the Congress and some contested, though lost.
Meanwhile, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya claimed on social media that her voter ID card had already been made before Sonia Gandhi got citizenship of India. He said that Sonia’s name was included in the 1980 voter list, while he got citizenship in 1983.
