Celebrating 79 Years of Independence

On August 15, India marked its 79th Independence Day, commemorating the end of British colonial rule that lasted nearly two centuries. The struggle for freedom was characterized by significant movements and the sacrifices of numerous freedom fighters, culminating in independence in 1947.

The journey to freedom involved pivotal events such as the Quit India Movement and the Civil Disobedience Movement, showcasing the unity and resilience of the Indian populace, which ultimately led to the British withdrawal and the establishment of a sovereign nation.

Manu Bhaker's Unique Tribute

In a heartfelt tribute to the nation, Manu Bhaker, a double Olympic medalist, chose to play India's national anthem on the violin. This performance took place as the nation celebrated its independence.

Sharing her rendition on Instagram, Bhaker expressed her emotions, stating, "An attempt to play the tune that is closest to my heart this Independence Day."

She further added, "Every time I represent India, I wish to stand on the podium and listen to this. This time, we stood while playing the National Anthem, reflecting our admiration for our country that words cannot capture. Jai Hind!"

Manu Bhaker's Olympic Journey

Last year, just before India's 78th Independence Day, Bhaker made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win two medals in a single Olympic event, securing bronze in both the women's 10m air pistol and the mixed team 10m air pistol alongside Sarabjot Singh.

She became the second individual from independent India to achieve this feat, following in the footsteps of Sushil Kumar and Neeraj Chopra.

Rise to Prominence

Manu Bhaker first gained recognition in 2018 when she won a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup, followed by victories at the Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympics in the same year.

In 2021, she represented India at the Tokyo Olympics but faced challenges due to equipment issues, preventing her from securing a medal.

Determined to bounce back, Bhaker has since achieved remarkable success, including a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games and multiple medals at various World Cups, solidifying her status as a leading figure in the sport.
