
Escape of a Detained Bangladeshi National
A 21-year-old Bangladeshi woman, accused of residing illegally in India, managed to escape from JJ Hospital while receiving treatment. This incident occurred when she was brought from jail for medical care, as reported by a Mumbai police official on Friday.
The officer revealed that Rubina Irshad Sheikh, who is five months pregnant, pushed past a constable and fled the government hospital on Thursday. She had been detained on August 5 in Navi Mumbai for allegedly living in the country without authorization.
She was being held at Byculla Women's Jail and was taken to JJ Hospital for treatment of fever and skin infections. The official noted that a case has been registered against Sheikh for her escape under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, she already faced charges under the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act. Efforts to recapture Sheikh are currently underway.
