'Masterpiece' movie with 'devastating story' and 93% Rotten Tomatoes score is on Netflix

A critically acclaimed film with a star studded cast that took home seven Oscars, cementing itself as one of the most successful biopics of all time is now on Netflix. Christopher Nolan's smash-hit film Oppenheimer was one of the biggest hits of 2023 achieving both critical acclaim and strong box office performance, grossing over £699 million worldwide.


Cillian Murphy leads the three-hour historical drama which is based on the true story of "the father of the atomic bomb",Robert J Oppenheimer, whose invention during World War II changed the nature of armed conflict forever. The ensemble cast also includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr. Rotten Tomatoes reviewers universally praised the film as a work of art giving the smash hit film an impressive score of 93%.

One viewer commented: "Oppenheimer is an absolute masterpiece that left me captivated from start to finish."

Vulture added: "That the director turned this most devastating of stories into a riveting pop culture phenomenon without ceding one inch on its tragic dimensions is surely an achievement for the ages".

Another viewer raved about the film's quality, as they wrote: "One of the best movies ever made and easily one of the greatest movies of the decade. Christopher Nolan has proven himself as one of the most talented filmmakers in cinematic history and this movie is proof of that."

Cillian Murphy clinched the Oscar for leading role and his fellow cast member, Robert Downey Jr. was honoured with the best supporting actor title for playing Lewis Strauss.

The movie earned a total of 13 Oscar nominations and took home an impressive seven awards across various accolades such as Director, Cinematography, Film Editing and Original Score.

Cillian gave an emotional speech after winning Best Actor. He thanked director Christopher and producer Emma Thomas for their long-standing collaboration.

He said: "Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas, it's been the wildest, most exhilarating, most creatively satisfying journey you've taken me on over the last twenty years."

And now eager film waters can watch this masterpiece from the comfort of their own home as streaming giant Netflix added the film on July 12.

Just two days after the film's release on Netflix, the eye-opening biopic reached number four in the streaming services charts in the UK
