Rising Water Levels in Yamuna River

On Saturday evening, the water level of the Yamuna River at the old railway bridge in Delhi reached approximately 205.11 meters, just shy of the danger mark of 205.33 meters. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have instructed all relevant agencies to take precautionary measures in anticipation of potential flooding.

A representative from the central flood control room stated that the primary reason for the rising water levels is the significant volume of water being released hourly from the Wazirabad and Hathnikund barrages.

According to the flood control department, around 36,000 cusecs of water is being discharged from the Hathnikund barrage, while the Wazirabad barrage releases about 44,320 cusecs. The old railway bridge serves as a crucial observation point for monitoring the river's flow and potential flood threats.

The warning level for the city is set at 204.50 meters, with the danger mark at 205.33 meters. Evacuations from low-lying areas commence once the water level reaches 206 meters. Typically, it takes about 48 to 50 hours for the water released from the barrages to reach Delhi.
