Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Jing has revealed that actors Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung divorced due to personality differences, not because of Cheung’s 2008 scandal involving leaked intimate photos with Edison Chen.

According to Znews, Swamp reported that Wong said the public had long assumed the leaked photos were the main reason behind the breakdown of Tse and Cheung’s marriage. However, he clarified that the truth was different.

Tse and Cheung, both 45, married in 2006 and divorced in 2011, sharing two sons. Wong noted that in the early days of their marriage, Cheung was devoted to Tse, often accompanying him on film sets and even caring for him when he was injured. Over time, however, their personality differences became more pronounced.

The filmmaker added that Cheung frequently scolded Tse on set, creating tension that gradually eroded their relationship. Wong emphasized that the root cause of the divorce was “incompatible personalities,” rather than any external scandal.

He also emphasized that Tse repeatedly defended his wife after her photos with Chen were leaked, showing that the scandal did not contribute to their separation.

“When you love, you truly love; when you stop loving, it’s also truly over,” Wong said.

After their divorce, Tse rekindled his relationship with ex-girlfriend Faye Wong, 56. Cheung, meanwhile, has kept her love life private and gave birth to her third son in 2018, with the father’s identity not publicly disclosed.

Tse entered the entertainment industry in 1996 and made his acting debut two years later.

Cheung rose to fame in 1998 after appearing in a television commercial for lemon tea. She gained further recognition with her role in Stephen Chow’s 1999 film “King of Comedy,” in which she played a call girl.
