
Khalil ur Rehman Qamar is known for crafting bold, emotional, and unforgettable characters—and he recently opened up about one such character close to his heart: Surraya from his latest drama Main manto nahi hoon.
In a candid interview with Guryas TakeQamar revealed that while the role of Surraya was ultimately played by actress Saima, his original choice was veteran actress Saba Hameed. Speaking with deep admiration, he said, “I have great love and respect for Saba, even though we argue a lot—but that’s another story. Whenever I write, I often have her in mind, especially for roles that are layered and emotionally challenging.”
Khalil ur Rehman Qamar explained that when he first envisioned the character of Surraya—a powerful and emotionally complex woman—Saba Hameed was his instinctive choice. “She’s a brilliant actor. I know she can bring depth to even the most difficult roles,” he shared.
However, director Nadeem Baig suggested casting Saima instead—a choice that Qamar ultimately embraced. “Saima delivered an outstanding performance. She’s an excellent actress with a strong command over her craft. Whenever she’s on screen, she makes her presence felt.”
The drama Main manto nahi hooncurrently airing on ARY Digital and starring Humayun Saeed and Sajal Aly, has already caught viewers’ attention with its intense storyline, sharp dialogue, and emotional depth—classic hallmarks of Qamar’s storytelling.
