A New Look for a Significant Meeting
On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a notable appearance at the Oval Office, donning a black jacket paired with a dark collared shirt. This choice marked a departure from his usual olive green military-style T-shirt, likely influenced by past criticism he received during a visit to Washington in February when former President Donald Trump mocked his attire.
Since the onset of Russia's extensive invasion in 2022, Zelenskyy has frequently worn military clothing as a gesture of support for the Ukrainian armed forces, rarely appearing in anything else during public engagements, whether addressing legislative bodies or visiting frontline hospitals.
This occasion saw him in a more polished and coordinated outfit, maintaining a formal appearance without the addition of a tie.
During the meeting with Trump, a reporter named Brian Glenn complimented Zelenskyy on his suit, stating, "First of all, President Zelensky, you look fabulous in that suit." This was a notable shift from Glenn's previous criticism of Zelenskyy's attire during their earlier meeting, which prompted Trump to humorously agree with the sentiment.
Zelenskyy acknowledged Glenn's earlier remarks, responding, "and you’re in the same suit." Glenn later expressed his apologies for the past criticism and reiterated that Zelenskyy looked "wonderful" in his outfit. He also inquired whether Zelenskyy would consider holding elections in Ukraine following a peace agreement.
Zelenskyy affirmed his openness to elections, stating, "Yes, of course, I am open to holding elections, but we have to conduct them in safe circumstances. We need security to hold elections."
