
AI-Powered Logistics IIT Madras: A joint venture ‘FEDEX Smart Center’ was launched in the IIT campus, a joint venture between the Multinational Courier delivery service company Federal Express Corporation (FEDEX) and IIT Madras. The purpose of this center is to prepare durable, technology-operated logistics solutions. According to IIT-M, the first innovation of its kind will be focused on developing hubs, durable, technology-operated logistics solutions. Five-year-old from FEDEX, supported by grant of 5 million dollars (about 44 crore rupees), this center aims to develop sustainable, technology-operated solutions for modern supply chains.

The inauguration was led by Kami Vishwanathan, president of the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and Africa (MEISA) of Fedex. On this occasion, Professor V. Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras, said, “The economy of a nation is determined by strong and efficient logistics. Joint efforts made by IIT Madras and Fedex will not only solve complex problems in logistics and supply chains, but will also solve important issues to human resources and infrastructure.”
The center is expected to carry forward interdisciplinary projects to carbon-plate operations, autonomous distribution systems, EV infrastructure, forecast analysis and AI-managed labor safety. A platform will also be constructed to share capacity development and knowledge.
