What is online gaming bill?
The government is going to bring the online gaming bill to Parliament. The Union Cabinet has approved for this. This bill will regulate online gaming. The fraud in this area will stop. The Bill aims to curb betting platforms. It can be introduced to discuss the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The government has taken this step after an increase in cases of fraud related to betting apps in recent months. Investigation agencies are also monitoring the famous people promoting such platforms.
There is a provision for punishment in online gaming bill
The online gaming bill is not just a regulatory structure. There are also provisions of strict punishment. Punishment has been proposed for people who promoted operators and betting apps.
Government has tightened on online gaming
In recent years, the government has been tightening monitoring the field of online gaming. From October 2023, 28% GST has come into force on online gaming. From the financial year 2024-25, the income from winning online gaming will be taxed at 30% tax. Even foreign gaming platforms have come under tax. Agencies have the right to block without registered or illegal sites.
7 years in jail may be due to illegal betting
Last year, new criminal provisions came into force under the Code of India. Under this, there is a provision of jail and fine up to 7 years for illegal betting. However, the states have the main right to take action against illegal betting and gambling. "Betting and gambling" fall in the state list of the Constitution. Between 2022 and February 2025, the government has blocked more than 1400 betting and gambling websites and apps.
