This meeting will be held on cooperation in business, economic, scientific, technical and cultural fields. During this time, S. Jaishankar will also meet Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Why is this journey of Foreign Minister important?
The main goal of this visit is to co-chair the 26th session of the India-Russia Inter-Government Commission (IRIGC-TEC), which is to business, economic, science-technical and cultural cooperation. Along with this, this is also the important point of this journey-
1. Foreign Minister will address the Indo-Russia Business Forum held at Moscow.
2. During the visit, he will meet Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, as well as review bilateral matters and share his perspectives on regional and global issues.
3. The purpose of this journey is to further strengthen the long-term and strong strategic partnership of India-Russia.
Possibility of discussing energy purchase
Trump’s tariff will not affect the relations between Russia and India. India is likely to discuss continuous energy purchases from Russia in the meetings of External Affairs Minister Jaishankar with Russian officials in Moscow. The order was recently issued by US President Donald Trump, under which an additional fee was imposed on Indian products by India in response to the purchase of energy from Russia.
Due to this additional fee, the total fee on India reached 50%. India defended the purchase of crude oil from Russia and said that its energy policies are in line with national interest and market conditions.
Discussion about Russia and Ukraine
During India’s visit to Moscow by India’s Foreign Minister Jaishankar, it is expected that the ongoing dispute between Russia and Ukraine will also be discussed. India has been continuously talking about ending this struggle through dialogue and diplomatic efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Moscow in July last year and told Putin there that the resolution of the Ukraine crisis is not possible through war and peace efforts between violence cannot be successful.
