A Narrow Escape from a Crocodile
Rajkanika: A 13-year-old boy from Khunta village, located in the Jaynagar panchayat of Kendrapara district, had a close brush with death on Tuesday when he bravely defended himself against a crocodile. Rakesh, the son of farmer Ratnakar Mallick and a Class VIII student, was on his way to deliver lunch to his father, who was working in the fields, around 2:15 PM.
While washing a kettle at Khunta creek, a waterway connected to the Brahmani River, Rakesh was unexpectedly attacked by a crocodile that bit into his left thigh. In a desperate attempt to fend off the creature, he screamed for help and clutched onto a nearby cane shrub. His father, alerted by the cries, rushed to the scene and managed to pull Rakesh away from the crocodile's grip. Rakesh suffered severe injuries to his left thigh, with significant flesh damage below the knee. Villagers quickly transported him to the local community health center, where he received initial treatment before being transferred to the Kendrapara district headquarters hospital for further care.
