Celtic and Rangers are reportedly among the teams looking to sign Jamie Vardy on a free transfer. The veteran striker remains without a club after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season. He scored 200 goals in exactly 500 games for the Foxes, establishing himself as a modern-day legend at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy is yet to confirm his next move but the 38-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs during the summer window. There is no shortage of interest in his signature, with a number of teams reportedly keeping an eye on him. Celtic and Rangers are said to be among those who have reached out to Vardy's representatives in recent weeks.

Both clubs have made contact with the player's camp to register their interest in snapping him up, according to the Daily Mail. It is said that Brentford, Everton and Italian champions Napoli are looking to rival the Old Firm duo for Vardy's signature.

The report adds that Vardy is in no rush to make an immediate decision on where to resume his football career. Because he is a free agent, he will be able to sign for a club after the transfer window closes.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has refused to rule out a move for Vardy, having described the Leicester icon as a 'brilliant' player earlier this week.

"Listen, I would not speak about any individual player," said Rodgers, who managed Vardy during his time in charge of the Foxes.

"Of course, I've worked really well with Jamie.'He was brilliant for me in my time at Leicester. But no, there's been so many names floated about. I wouldn't disclose anyone."

Meanwhile, former Everton defender Alan Stubbs believes Vardy would be a perfect fit for the Toffees. He talked up the potential signing in the wake of Monday's defeat at the hands of Leeds United.

"He's very different to what we've got," said Stubbs during an appearance on talkSPORT. "We have got two very similar strikers, two big lads, but we haven't got anyone who is that direct and, most importantly, proven goalscorers.

""If you look at the players we have got, Iliman Ndiaye, Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are looking to slide in balls down the side and want a clever player to run onto them. I've got to be honest, Vardy is a perfect player for Everton right now."

Rangers legend Ally McCoist was quick to agree with Stubbs, adding: "I think it is a no-brainer and a contrast in what you have got. Vardy plays on the shoulder, he has still got his pace and would be perfect."
