Minister of State for Coal Satish Chandra Dubey inaugurated Lohum’s state -of -the -art research and innovation center in Noida, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promote innovation in important minerals. It corresponds to India’s National Important Mineral Mission, which has been initiated to achieve self -sufficiency in minerals essential for economic development and clean energy changes. The 60,000 -square -foot center operated by Lohum in Uttar Pradesh focuses at 15 of India’s 27 identified important minerals, including lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite, copper, aluminum and rare soil elements.

Dubey said, “The government is dedicated to furthering the innovation of important minerals, and this center is an important step towards mineral freedom and sustainable energy.” The center has special laboratories for batteries, rare soil magnets, cathode materials, etc., which promote progress in electric vehicles (EV) and renewable energy technologies. Lohum allocates 5% of its revenue and 10% of its workforce, including more than 100 scientists, for research and development, which aims to provide solutions to a circular economy.

Lohum founder and CEO Rajat Verma highlighted the role of the Center in establishing India as a global leader in important mineral technology. He said, “This state -of -the -art facility is the cornerstone of our approach to building world -class manufacturing capabilities.” The initiative has come amid concerns about the export restrictions on rare earth magnets by China, which is having an impact on Indian industries, especially EV manufacturers, as mentioned by the Ministry of Coal in Parliament on August 19, 2025.

Supported by an investment of ₹ 34,300 crore of the National Important Mineral Mission, the center strengthens India’s efforts to reduce import dependence and increase energy security. By promoting innovation and domestic processing, Lohum facilities can play an important role in giving new looks to India’s important mineral landscape, supporting EV development and sustainable energy goals.
