A Chinese tourist has been sentenced to one month in jail and fined 2,000 Malaysian ringgit (US$473) for assaulting an immigration officer at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The incident took place on the evening of Aug. 13 at Terminal 1, when immigration officers stopped two Chinese adults and two children after finding no entry records for them in the system, Malay Mail reported.
During the inspection, a 31-year-old tourist, identified as Fang Fuyuan, became agitated. She verbally abused a female officer, forcibly pulled off the officer’s headscarf, and slammed her head against a counter pillar, Free Malaysia Today reported.
The attack left the officer injured and in need of hospital treatment.
Despite efforts by officers to defuse the situation, Fang continued to act aggressively and was eventually detained by the Royal Malaysia Police.
She was charged in the Sepang Court on Aug. 18.
Fang pleaded guilty, citing a misunderstanding and her responsibility for traveling with children.
The court ruled that Fang would serve an additional two months in prison if she failed to pay the fine.
