The peplum top, a defining silhouette of early 2010s fashion, is making an unexpected yet striking return. Once synonymous with business casual-meets-evening wear, it held iconic status among fashion enthusiasts, often styled with skinny jeans, high-waisted skirts, and bold statement necklaces.
At its peak, the peplum was frontlined by luxury fashion houses such as Lanvin and Jil Sander in their 2011 runway collections. The trend quickly gained momentum and was embraced across the fashion spectrum.
After falling out of favour and being deemed outdated and associated with voluminous hairstyles and diamante heels, the peplum is re-emerging in 2025 with a modern sensibility. Designers such as Bally, Alaïa, and Dries Van Noten are presenting updated versions of the silhouette featuring sharper tailoring and contemporary proportions. This renewed interpretation has already been embraced by fashion icons, including Demi Moore , Sydney Sweeney , Elle Fanning and Tyler Russell, who have been spotted in peplum ensembles on recent red carpets.
