Fans of Akshay Kumar , who had been awaiting news of the sequel to ‘Rowdy Rathore’, may have to face a little disappointment. As per the latest reports, the script of ‘Rowdy Rathore’ 2 has officially been scrapped. Read on to find out more about what went down.
Plans for ‘Rowdy Rathore’ 2 scrapped
As per reports from Bollywood Hungama, the script for ‘Rowdy Rathore’ 2 has been put aside by Shabinaa Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali . The script for the film will now be approached with a new lens, with the possibility of being made into an independent film instead.
A report also shared that one of the reasons for the project getting scrapped lies in the hesitance from one of the owners of the film’s rights. The statement read, “With Disney unwilling to commit, Shabinaa Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have decided to scrap the idea of Rowdy Rathore 2 altogether and repurpose the script into a standalone commercial entertainer, free from the Rowdy Rathore tag”.
The script will undergo many changes
As the original project will not be followed through on, even after almost 3 years of effort, the already-made script is being reworked. Screenplay writer V. Vijayendra Prasad was responsible for bringing the story of ‘Rowdy Rathore’ 2 to life; however, he will now work on transforming it into a cop centric drama story.
While not much has yet been revealed about the dynamic project, as per reports, famous Tamil director Mithran will be taking the lead on the film’s direction. The production has been planned for early 2026, with no official information on the cast just yet.
Sidharth Malhotra was initially being coveted for the original film; however, after the massive changes, his role in the new project seems uncertain.
The original ‘Rowdy Rathore’ featured a starcast that included names like Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha , Paresh Ganatra, Gurdeep Kohli, Yashpal Sharma, and many others. The 2012 film was a hit at the time of its release, and showed Kumar in the titular role of a cop who will do anything to serve justice.
