
Wing collected Rs 1.10 crore from April to July this year
Punjab News: The Legal Metrology Wing of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Punjab has registered an increase in many standards like compounding fees, verification and inspection collected from April to July this year as compared to last year.
In the case of compounding fees, the Legal Metrology Wing has recovered Rs 1.10 crore, compared to only Rs 49.68 lakh in the same period last year. Thus, this growth is 121 percent. The wing conducted 5753 inspections, while this time the number of inspections was 11,035. Similarly, the number of cases registered last year was 587 while this year the number increased to 1531. Last year, 41,625 commercial institutions were inspected while 42,733 institutions have been inspected this year.
While reviewing the works of the legal metrology wing at the grain building here today, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak appreciated the hard work done by the department officials and asked them to work more with more excitement and dedication. During the meeting, the minister was informed that the wing has standard laboratories owned by the department in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala, while new laboratories are proposed in Sirhind and Khanna. The purpose of this step is to increase efficiency in the functioning of the department.
Regarding the reorganization of the wing as well as the need for modern equipment, Kataruchak asked the wing officials to send a detailed proposal so that they could study these proposals thoroughly and take necessary steps as soon as possible. The main objective of the legal metros wing is to protect the interests of consumers, by ensuring that the purchased and sold goods are in the standard and correct amounts. Apart from others, Principal Secretary Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Rahul Tiwari, Additional Secretary Pangrain Kamal Kumar Garg and Comptroller, Legal Metrology Wing Manohar Singh were present on the occasion.
