
Visit to Chishoti Village Following Cloudburst Tragedy
On Sunday, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will visit Chishoti village in Kishtwar district, which was severely impacted by a recent cloudburst. Their visit aims to assess the ongoing search operations and engage with the affected residents.
The tragic incident on August 14 resulted in the loss of 65 lives, including three personnel from the CISF and a Special Police Officer (SPO) from the Jammu and Kashmir police.
Over 100 individuals sustained injuries, and 32 people remain unaccounted for. An official informed that Singh and Sinha will review the search efforts that have been underway for the past nine days and will interact with those affected by the disaster.
Previously, several leaders have visited Chishoti. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah arrived at the site on August 16, announcing compensation for the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
Kishtwar's Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Sharma stated that relief operations continue on the ninth day, with ongoing efforts to locate the missing 32 individuals.
