Request to open Kartarpur Sahib Corridor without any delay

Chandigarh News: A Member of Parliament from Sloh, UK, Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi has presented a detailed approach for the economic and diplomatic future of Punjab on the occasion of 350th Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadar Sahib. Addressing the media in the presence of Paramjit Singh Raipur Member Executive Committee SGPC at the Press Club on Saturday, Dhesi has called upon the Government of India to take advantage of this historic moment.

He demanded the introduction of direct international flights from international airports in Chandigarh and Amritsar to North America, Europe, UK, Asia and Australia. He emphasized that such a step will not only meet the spiritual needs of Sikhs around the world, but will also become a major economic catalyst for the entire northern region. He said that these facilities will be used extensively by farmers, traders and entrepreneurs of half population of Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir as well as Haryana and Rajasthan.

To fulfill this, Dhesi also emphasized on the immediate resumption of cargo terminals at both airports and highlighted the immense ability to promote exports from the strong agricultural sector of the region. To convert this view into reality, he proposed to the Punjab government to host a special summit, which could be named ‘Punjab Fly Initiative’. In this initiative, major international airlines should be invited to Amritsar and persuaded them to start flights from the holy city to major global centers like North America, Europe, London and Australia, so that the heart of Punjab can connect with its huge migrant community.

Focusing on the serious concerns of the overseas Indian community, Dhesi emphasized the significant need to establish a strong and effective prevention mechanism for Punjab. He pointed to the frequent issues faced by NRI, including the land disputes, property possession, heritage conflict and even forced recovery incidents. In order to ensure timely justice for overseas Indians, he demanded the establishment of more dedicated NRI police stations and special fast-track courts from the state government. In addition, he advocated to empower the NRI Commission with real executive rights and adequate permanent employees to remove it from the role of only one advisor and make a powerful body capable of decisively resolved complaints.

On the matters of international diplomacy and justice, Dhesi called upon the Government of India to open the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib Corridor without any delay and said that the recent hostility between India and Pakistan has given a right opportunity to facilitate the reach of pilgrims due to the end of enmity and peaceful atmosphere. Apart from this, he urged the state governments to follow the recent Supreme Court’s decision and release all the prisoners who have served their entire punishment. In a specific case, he demanded an early resolution of the long -standing legal case against the UK citizen Jagtar Singh Johal. Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi, who is known for his active advocacy on issues to Punjab and Indian migrants, said that these measures are important for the prosperity of the region and strengthening the relations between its millions of citizens living in India and abroad.
