Flooding Incident in Tharali Tehsil

In Tharali Tehsil of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, a woman was trapped under debris due to a cloudburst, and one individual is reported missing. The incident occurred last night, leading to significant damage as debris invaded several homes, including that of the sub-divisional magistrate. Images captured on Saturday morning reveal damaged houses and roads, uprooted trees, and vehicles covered in mud and rubble.

Impact of Heavy Rainfall

The torrential rain in Tharali town caused severe flooding in the seasonal stream, Tunri Ghadere, which resulted in debris filling the tehsil office and nearby residences. Officials reported that the heavy downpour overnight led to the flooding, which brought debris into the tehsil premises and surrounding homes.

Rescue Operations Underway

According to officials from the Chamoli district administration, a 20-year-old woman is believed to be trapped under the rubble in Sagwada village. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the site. Additionally, another similar incident was reported in Chepdon market, located not far from Tharali, where debris has entered several shops, and another person is missing.

Authorities also noted that the Karnprayag-Gwaldam National Highway, which connects Tharali, has been blocked due to debris near Ming Ghadere. Furthermore, the Tharali-Sagwada motor road and the Dungari motor road are also obstructed.

In light of the weather department's warning for heavy rainfall, the district administration declared a holiday for all schools in three development blocks for Saturday.
