Rennes have set a new record for the shortest time it took a team to receive two red cards in a single Ligue 1 game. Habib Beye’s Red and black were facing promoted Ligue 1 side and Brittany rivals FC Lorient when both Mahdi Camara and Christopher Wooh received their marching orders from Jérôme Brisard. The former Brest midfielder saw his Rennes debut cut short after six minutes when he unintentionally kicked Lorient’s Karim Dermane in the chest.
Like last week against Marseille, when Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal picked up a red card, Rennes were again facing an uphill battle. But their task turned even harder when Cameroon international centre-back tackled Aiyegun Tosin down on the edge of Rennes’ penalty box as the last man standing between the ball and Brice Samba. Brisard sent him off.
According to choose, Rennes are the first team to pick up two red cards in only ten minutes and four seconds of a Ligue 1 game. With two players down, Rennes head coach Habib Beye had no choice but to recall striker Kader Meïté and to replace him with versatile defender Mahamadou Nagida.
