Wars are becoming increasingly normalized in todays world with many conflicts happening around the world over the last several years. The frequency and intensity of these battles highlight the growing instability in international relations as nations continue to compete for power resources and strategic dominance. In recent years maintaining global peace has become an urgent concern as numerous new conflicts have erupted across the world. Which country tops the list of the safest nations? Countries are increasingly putting their efforts into arming and building up their military capabilities against one another. This has created a situation where the death toll is soon inevitable. To calculate the ranking the Institute for Economics and Peace established an index taking into account 23 variables such as external conflicts military expenditure terrorism murder rates and conditions for public safety. Considering these components in the equation the outcome has shown that once again the same country has taken the top place and has retained that top position for two consecutive decades. Iceland finished ranked number one and has remained in that position since 2008. Iceland is joined at the top of the index by Ireland Austria New Zealand and Singapore. All of these countries other than Singapore were also ranked among the ten most peaceful countries in the first year of the index reads the report. According to the media report indicated that the nation is so peaceful that its police do not carry guns. Ireland ranks second in the list. Even though Ireland was a hotbed of conflict in the late 20th century by the mid-21st century the country has been recognized for its peaceful stance. Over the years Ireland also began to lessen military activities and is currently among the least involved with conflicts domestically and internationally. New Zealand ranks fourth in the list. According to another report people here often leave their home doors unlocked. Considering the rankings for India and Pakistan India is ranked 116th while its neighbor Pakistan is ranked 144th. Last year India was ranked 140th.
