Our pets deserve a treat every now and then - especially as a reward for good behaviour. And recently, one dog parent decided to make her German Sherpherd earn their treat.

He thought it would take a while for the pooch to figure things out - but it quickly backfired when the clever girl managed to figure it out in seconds. So it was actually the owner who ended up learning a lesson!

The master of the household, William, shared a video on TikTok that captured the sweet moment. He was enjoying snacking on popcorn when his German Shepherd came over, sniffing to see if she could get some for herself. How dare William snack and not offer her any?

Unable to resist her cute face, William placed a piece of popcorn in his hand. He held it out for her, but kept it under the glass table in front of him.

Wiliam thought he would outsmart her, but she immediately figured it out. In his viral video, he said: "I thought I outsmarted a German Sheperd."

The smart pooch put her paw on William's hand to pull it down - and she quickly grabbed the treat. The owner joked: "She solved it way before I could have."

People rushed to comment on the hilarious clip - and agreed that the German Shepherd is super smart.

One laughed: "She is like 'nice try!'". Another said: "Paw skills on point." And a third added: "It's a German Shepherd! They are clever. That's why they make great police dogs."

A fourth agreed: "Very intelligent animals." Meanwhile, another pointed out: "There's a reason they're like top 5 smartest."

Speaking about the characteristics of this dog breed, the American Kennel Club said: "The German Shepherd is a highly intelligent breed that was originally bred for herding sheep.

"With a dedicated and trainable temperament, these talented dogs make great family pets if you have the time to invest in them."

Speaking of intelligent dog breeds, a vet has shared three breeds she insists are easy to train. You might not expect the ones she recommends to others looking to adopt.

With this being said, here is one drawback that makes smart dogs harder to train.
