Breast Cancer screening in India: Breast and cervical cancer are two big challenges that can make women's genes ethical. Experts say that if these diseases are detected in the initial time, then treatment is easy. But it is a matter of concern that most of the women of India do not get these diseases investigated, which have different reasons.

Recent statistics show that only 0.9 percent of women in India get breast tested and only 1.09 percent of women get cervical cancer screening. Meaning, only one woman out of every 100 women is getting them investigated. These figures are very worrying. Let us tell you that these figures have been released in Biomed Central (BMC) Public Health magazine.

How much investigation is being done in which state of India

On the other hand, if the states are compared, then this figure is a bit better in Tamil Nadu. About 10 percent of the women conduct checks here, while the figures in Assam are very worried, stating that only 0.5 percent of women in Assam get screening done. Most of the use of mammography has been recorded in Kerala and Karnataka. It was recorded at 4.5 per cent in Kerala and 2.9 per cent in Karnataka, while Nagaland was the lowest zero per cent in Andhra Pradesh with 0.1 per cent and Uttarakhand with 0.27 per cent.

What are the reasons for not investigating?

1- Lack of awareness

The first reason behind the lack of cancer tests in women in India is awareness. Many women still do not know whether the cancer screening is available or not. Or when it should be done.

2- hesitation and shame

The second problem is hesitation and shame. In our society, the health of women, especially private parts, is not openly talked about. This hesitation prevents them from going to the doctor.

3- Financial Tightness is an essential reason

Another major problem is the lack of facilities and money. Also, there is a lack of availability of screening centers in small cities and villages. Also, due to lack of knowledge to women, they do not even pay attention to the disease, when there is no major problem. But the problem is the biggest problem in these diseases that the initial symptoms do not appear. By the time the disease is detected, she has moved forward.

Benefits of screening on time

  • Mammography and self-execution in breast cancer can detect the initial lump.
  • Pap Smear and HPV tests are very effective for cervical cancer.
  • With these investigations, the cancer can be detected at the initial stage.
  • The success of treatment increases by 90%.

How to increase the awareness of investigation

The activation of women health workers should be increased. Increase awareness campaign programs. Women should be made aware first. Explain to them that there is no need to be afraid or ashamed to get it checked. Initial investigation can save life, explain to women. Free camp and investigation facility should also be increased by the government. More and more facilities should be provided, so that rural and poor women can also take advantage of it.
