Coolie Box Office Collection Day 13: Rajinikanths gangster drama Coolie is struggling to meet the box office expectations it initially created. Although its opening weekend was a blockbuster the films earnings began to decline during the first week. It made a strong comeback over the second weekend but as soon as the weekdays began its performance dipped once again. On the second Monday Coolie witnessed a significant drop in collections. There were high expectations from the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday but it seems that it won’t be possible either. Here’s why! How much did Coolie collect on the 13th day of its release? Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj hit theatres on August 14. The film clashed with War 2 starring Junior NTR and Hrithik Roshan. However Coolie managed to attract large crowds from day one and its impressive earnings continued through the opening weekend. But starting from the sixth day the first Tuesday the film’s collections dropped to single digits. Nevertheless Coolie delivered a strong performance in its first week collecting Rs 229.65 crore. The film made a comeback during the second weekend earning Rs 10.5 crore on the second Saturday and Rs 11.35 crore on the second Sunday. It seemed as though the film had regained momentum but on the 12th day the second Monday it saw a sharp decline again earning only Rs 3.25 crore. According to early trend reports by Sacnilk Coolie collected only Rs 3.25 crore on its 13th day of release i.e. the second Tuesday. With this the film’s total earnings over 13 days have reached Rs 263.85 crore. Coolies A certification impacts its box office earnings The A (adults-only) certification for the Rajinikanth film Coolie has impacted its box office by restricting family audiences. It has potentially hindered by a decline in collections during the weekdays. The makers challenged the A rating in the Madras High Court seeking a U/A re-certification to attract family audiences and boost box office numbers especially in family-oriented multiplexes. However the judge suspended the case without giving a new date. The decision means viewers under 18 are barred from watching the film in theatres. The firm argued however that Rajinikanth’s vast fan base spanning all age groups was being unfairly restricted from viewing the film because of A certification. Coolie still remains far from becoming the fourth highest-grossing film in Kollywood Coolie’s earnings remained stable on the second Tuesday. However it failed to surpass Ponniyin Selvan 1. For reference the lifetime collection of this Aishwarya Rai starrer stands at Rs 266 crore. Coolie still needs Rs 3 crore more to surpass it. With earnings of over Rs 263 crore so far it is expected that Coolie will achieve this milestone on its 14th day of release i.e. the second Wednesday. With that it will also become the fourth highest-grossing film in Kollywood. Top 5 highest grossing Kollywood movies at Indian box office (net collection) 2.0 – Rs 407.05 crore Jailer - Rs 345 crore Leo – Rs 342 crore Ponniyin Selvan 1 – 266.54 Crore Coolie - Rs 259.87 crore
