Producer Boney Kapoor has filed a petition in the Madras High Court against three individuals who are allegedly claiming ownership of his late wife Sridevis farmhouse in Chennai. The disputed property located on Chennai’s East Coast Road (ECR) was reportedly purchased by Sridevi on April 19 1988 from M.C. Sambanda Mudaliar who had three sons and two daughters. In his petition Boney Kapoor alleged that the three individuals are making illegal claims on the farmhouse which rightfully belongs to Sridevi. According to Boney Kapoor Mudaliar’s family had divided the property by mutual consent in 1960 and based on this family arrangement the actress had legally acquired the plot. However a woman and her two sons are now claiming rights over the property alleging that she was the second wife of Mudaliar’s son. Boney Kapoor claims that the marriage is illegal since the man’s first wife was alive until 1999 rendering the alleged second marriage void. He also challenged the legal succession certificate issued to the trio by the Tambaram Tehsildar in 2005 arguing that the officer had no jurisdiction as the family resided in Mylapore not Tambaram. He has accused the three individuals of misusing the certificate to create a dispute. It is worth noting that Boney Kapoor married Sridevi in June 1996. The couple has two daughters Khushi and Janhvi Kapoor. Sridevi passed away on February 24 2018 in Dubai.
