Urgent Measures for Flood Relief in Uttar Pradesh

In light of the imminent flood threat, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to expedite relief efforts. This directive was communicated through an official statement on Tuesday.

The statement highlighted that heavy rainfall in both mountainous and plain regions has led to rising floodwaters in several districts. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Yogi has called for immediate action from officials to enhance relief operations.

He emphasized the need for clear responsibilities among officials, stating, “We must ensure that no individual suffers due to the flood crisis. Adequate arrangements should be made, and residents in affected areas must be swiftly relocated to safe locations, with all their needs addressed.”

Additionally, he has directed officials to make special provisions for livestock.

Relief Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami reported that currently, 43 tehsils across 22 districts are affected by flooding, impacting 252,839 individuals who have received relief assistance.

Furthermore, 33,370 livestock have been relocated to safety due to the floods, and no homes have been reported damaged. Over 37,279 hectares of land are under floodwaters, with relief supplies being delivered using 550 boats and motorboats.

On Tuesday alone, 6,458 food packets and 7,143 lunch packets were distributed in the affected areas. The districts currently facing flooding include Varanasi, Prayagraj, Auraiya, Bahraich, Banda, Mirzapur, Kanpur Dehat, Chandauli, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar, Barabanki, Badaun, Farrukhabad, Gonda, Hardoi, Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Meerut, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Shahjahanpur, and Unnao. Relief operations are ongoing in all these districts.
