Minneapolis is in mourning after a horrifying attack at Annunciation Church during a Catholic school Mass on the first week of school. Police have confirmed that two children, aged eight and ten, were killed, and 17 others were injured, including 14 children.

Suspect Identified: Robin Westman, 23

According to multiple reports, the suspect in the shooting has been identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman. The Associated Press, along with local outlets KARE and KSTP, confirmed the suspect’s identity, and NBC News reports that law enforcement officials said Westman had posted multiple videos online referencing violence.

The Shooter: Acting Alone, Armed with Multiple Weapons

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara stated that Westman acted alone and did not have an extensive known criminal history. The gunman carried three weapons—a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol—and opened fire from outside the church before ultimately taking his own life.

Details of the Shooting

While Westman primarily fired from outside the building, Chief O’Hara said he may have briefly entered the church, though no shell casings were found inside. “If not all, then most of the shooting happened outside,” O’Hara explained. Authorities estimate that the number of rounds fired was “in the dozens,” and they believe all three weapons were used during the attack.

Community in Shock

The tragedy has left the local community deeply traumatized. Chief O’Hara expressed condolences to the families who lost their children, as well as to those still fighting for their lives. Two of the injured children remain in critical condition.

Authorities continue to investigate Westman’s background and possible motives, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
