Faysal Quraishi has spoken out against age- criticism directed at his role in the drama Raja Ranistating that many critics judged the drama without even watching it.
Faysal Quraishi stars opposite newcomer Hina Afridi in Raja Raniwhere he plays a complex character — a middle-aged businessman struggling with a mental health condition brought on by a tragic accident. While his performance has been widely praised, the initial episodes of the drama sparked online backlash, primarily due to the significant age gap between him and his co-star.
In a recent interview with The CurrentFaysal Quraishi addressed the criticism and said it was disappointing to see people focus on his age rather than the storyline or his performance. “Right from the start, people began criticizing my age without watching the drama. But as the episodes progressed, the criticism began to fade,” he noted.
He went on to say that there’s a tendency among viewers to react prematurely. “People assume that directors and producers don’t know what they’re doing. The moment a new drama is announced, critics start judging it without seeing a single episode,” he said.
Faysal Quraishi also highlighted the growing contradiction in public discourse, where people often preach against body shaming, colorism, and ageism — yet continue to engage in the same behavior when it comes to celebrities. “On one hand, people give long lectures about not shaming others for their looks or size. On the other, they’re the first to comment on someone’s age or physical appearance,” he added.
In his signature candid style, the actor further remarked, “I don’t understand who these people are — they seem like rolling cups that fall over anywhere.”
Despite the criticism, Faysal Quraishi’s portrayal in Raja Rani has garnered applause for its emotional depth and sensitivity. His comments have sparked discussions online about ageism in the entertainment industry and the importance of judging performances based on talent rather than appearance.
As Raja Rani continues to unfold, Faysal Quraishi proves once again why he remains one of Pakistan’s most respected and consistent actors — both on and off the screen.
