Yamuna River Water Level Update

On Wednesday night at 8 PM, the water level of the Yamuna River reached 205.35 meters, exceeding the danger mark of 205.33 meters at the old railway bridge, as reported by officials. They noted that the river's water level has been on the rise since morning, remaining above the warning threshold of 204.50 meters for the second consecutive day.

Flood Warning Issued

The Central Water Commission had issued a flood warning on Tuesday evening, predicting that the water level would surpass the danger mark by Wednesday evening. Authorities have been advised to monitor their respective areas closely and take necessary actions, such as alerting residents living near riverbanks and facilitating their relocation to safer locations.

Current Water Level and Monitoring

As of 9 AM on Wednesday, the Yamuna's water level was recorded at 204.61 meters. Evacuations to safe areas typically commence when the water level reaches 206 meters. The old railway bridge serves as a crucial observation point for monitoring river flow and potential flood risks.

Causes of Rising Water Levels

An official from the central flood control room stated that the primary reason for the rising water levels is the significant release of water from the Wazirabad and Hathnikund barrages, which is occurring at a rate of approximately 41,206 cusecs and 55,830 cusecs, respectively. It usually takes about 48 to 50 hours for the released water to reach Delhi, and despite lower water releases from upstream areas, the Yamuna's water level continues to rise.
