In the last few years Bollywood films like Dangal Secret Superstar and Andhadhun have earned a lot in China. RRR and Pushpa 2 also did well in Japan and other Asian countries. But the shine of all these blockbusters fades in front of a small crime thriller film Caravan. This film was released 54 years ago in 1971 and is still counted among the best films of Hindi cinema. Caravan featured Jeetendra and Asha Parekh in the lead roles. Which film is this? Directed by Nasir Hussain this film was a superhit in India and became the sixth highest-grossing film of 1971 with earnings of Rs 3.6 crore. Eight years after its release it was released in China where it did wonders. 8.8 crore tickets of Caravan were sold in China which was a record for any foreign film at that time. The film achieved 30 crore footfalls there. Not only this it also broke the records of Sholay in India and Awara in the Soviet Union. Which film sold the most tickets? Today when we talk about the global success of Dangal RRR or Pushpa 2 the name of Caravan is often forgotten. Dangal earned $238 million in China and sold 4.31 crore tickets which is one seventh of the ticket sales of Caravan. RRR earned around $20 million in the US and Japan but the footfall was only 30 lakh. Pushpa 2 sold 6 crore tickets in India and 1 crore tickets abroad but it does not stand anywhere in front of the record of Caravan. The film still stands unmatched with its historical record. Story Highlights Caravan (1971) starring Jeetendra and Asha Parekh was directed by Nasir Hussain. Caravan sold 8.8 crore tickets. Caravan surpassed Sholay in India and Awara in the Soviet Union. Even Dangal RRR and Pushpa 2 couldnt come close to Caravan’s historic ticket sales.
