Delhi-NCR woke up with heavy showers on Friday morning. The heavy rains not only cooled down the city but also eased humidity levels. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in the region. The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall in the coming days. Temperatures have come down to 30°C and 34°C during the day and around 22°C to 26°C at night, which is a noticeable drop from the high summer averages.

Given the current situation, the Delhi Airport and the IndiGo airlines have issued advisories, asking passengers to plan travel in advance.

IndiGo took to its social media and posted, “The skies over Delhi are bringing in some light showers today. While there is no major impact on roads yet, travel may be slower in a few areas. If you are on your way to the airport, please plan ahead and check your flight details in advance using our app or website.”

Expect light rain on August 30

The IMD has predicted light rain for Delhi and NCR on August 30, accompanied by thunderstorms. The rain may not be heavy, it is expected to bring down the temperature, with humidity levels to remain intact.

Expect heavy rain expected on August 31

On the other hand, IMD has predicted heavy rains from August 31. with the sky expected to be cloudy with a possibility of light rain.

Moderate Air Quality

The air quality in Delhi remains moderate. As per the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi's average air quality index was at 120 on Thursday, which is moderate. There has been an increase of 49 points in just 24 hours. The air quality level is likely to remain the same in the coming days.

Best time to explore the Delhi landmarks and streets

For those travelling to Delhi, the monsoon showers come with a silver lining. Famous landmarks like India Gate, the Red Fort, and Qutub Minar look especially beautiful and rain washed under monsoon skies. Street food lovers can also relish a range of delicious delicacies in the city.

Waterlogging and traffic jams

But this does not mean the journey would be smooth. Expect waterlogging at several places that will bring the usual challenges. Waterlogging can create traffic slowdowns, and occasional power cuts. Tourists are advised to carry an umbrella and wear light quick-dry clothes. Keep your itineraries flexible. But the bright side is that the air breathes cleaner, trees look freshly washed and improved visibility.

Gurugram and Noida too are experiencing similar kind of weather and heavy showers have brought the much-needed respite from the summer heat. According to the IMD, this pleasant spell is likely to continue into the first week of September. It means Delhi-NCR residents can expect cooler days and comfortable evenings —making it one of the best times to explore the region for travellers.
