A man who confessed to being a 'monster' after he brutally murdered his own mother in a horrific knife and hammer attack has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Oliver Grange, 24, took the life of his mother, Rachel Dixon, 49, in Clacton, Essex, at his residence on Skelmersdale Avenue on 21 March.
Essex Police were summoned following reports of a woman sustaining serious injuries, with paramedics and an air ambulance crew attending the scene.
Tragically, Rachel was pronounced dead at the scene after she had gone to retrieve some belongings while her new partner waited in the car.
The court heard that Rachel's partner later informed police that he heard her exclaim 'No' before she exited the house and collapsed onto the passenger seat.

He observed blood on her head and, subsequently, multiple stab wounds.
A passerby, who happened upon the property, witnessed her partner attempting to stem the bleeding with his jumper.
The court was informed about the post-mortem examination, which disclosed numerous stab wounds, indications of manual strangulation and injuries from blunt force.
In a report, the pathologist at Colchester Hospital identified injuries to Ms Dixon's head, which could be attributed to a blow from a hammer.
Police discovered a three-inch flick knife near the defendant and a bloodied hammer within the property.
Grange was located by the police in the back garden, bearing wounds to his wrists and neck.
The court was told that he informed the police officer about a hammer he claimed to have used to harm his mother.
He pleaded with the officers to end his life, stating, "I'm a monster".
Grange will serve a minimum of 15 years and 25 days behind bars before he can be considered for parole.
Judge Morgan reduced the full minimum term of 15 years and six months due to Grange having already served more than 150 days in custody.
The judge expressed his belief that Grange murdered his mother because he held her responsible for his parents' separation and felt deserted.
Defence counsel, Lawrence Selby KC, informed the court that no medical evidence had been presented.
"The person he most relied on and most depended on would be the person whose life he would take," Mr Selby stated.
"He will have to live with that for the rest of his life."
Rachel's family previously paid tribute, saying: "Our beautiful daughter, sister, mother and auntie, who will be greatly missed by all who was taken away from us far too soon."
