New Delhi: UP Yoddhas defeated Telugu Titans 40-35  in the first match of the Super Saturday at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium on August 30. Yoddhas started their Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 12 campaign on a solid note by defeating Titans in their home ground.

Yoddhas’ skipper Sumit Sangwan led his team from the front with a High 5, scoring eight points in the game. Gagan Gowda supported his captain well and made his first Super 10 of the season by scoring 14 points in the match.

Titans’ Vijay Malik opened the account for his side with a hand touch early in the game, and both teams were playing on the do-or-die raids, in which Bharat Hooda was unsuccessful in the first two attempts, while Guman Singh converted the attempt into a successful raid to give the lead to Yoddhas in the first half.

Yoddhas were pressurizing the Telugu players at regular intervals, which resulted the first all-out on the hosts in the eighth minute. Gagan and Sumit increased the pace of the game and shifted the momentum in their favor at the end of the first half as they extended the lead to 21-13 over the hosts.

Yoddhas held their nerve to secure two points

Sumit completed his High 5 in the second half and helped his side to force the second all-out on the hosts and stretched the lead to 11 points. In the last 10 minutes of the game, the Titans made a comeback in the match by inflicting the first all-out on the Yoddhas.

Malik’s multi-point raid helped him to complete his Super 10 in the last five minutes of the match and reduced the lead to just three points, but Yoddhas held their nerves in the final moments of the game and didn’t give a chance to Titans for a late comeback. Gowda made a super raid in the end moments and sealed the game for his side.

Titans are still pointless after their two matches of the season 12 campaign in front of their home crowd, and now they will get a five-day break to readdress their consecutive losses, as they will look to make a comeback in their third match.
