Oil marketing companies (OMCs) have slashed the prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders by ₹51.50, effective September 1, Monday. The decision brings slight relief to businesses, especially in the hospitality and food sectors, which heavily rely on LPG cylinders for daily operations.
New Prices Across Major Cities
Following the revision, the retail price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has dropped to ₹1,580, according to Goodreturns. Similarly, in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, prices have also been revised downward, benefiting restaurants, eateries, and other commercial users who are the primary consumers of such cylinders.
Impact on Businesses
This reduction, though modest, is significant for small and medium businesses that struggle with fluctuating fuel costs. For restaurants, hotels, and catering services, LPG cylinders represent a recurring operational expense. The price cut provides temporary financial relief and helps reduce overall input costs, especially during a period of rising expenses in other sectors.
No Change in Domestic LPG Prices
It is important to note that the price cut applies only to commercial LPG cylinders. Domestic LPG cylinder rates, which directly affect household consumers, remain unchanged. Domestic prices are reviewed separately, and no announcements have been made regarding adjustments to household cooking gas rates.
Government Monitoring and Future Outlook
Fuel and LPG prices are revised monthly based on global crude oil trends and currency fluctuations. The government and OMCs continue to monitor international energy markets closely, with further price changes likely in the coming months. Businesses will be hoping for additional reductions to ease cost pressures ahead of the festive season.
