6 killed after cargo ropeway wire breaks down at Gujarat’s Pavagadh Hill temple

Ahmedabad: At least six people were killed on Saturday afternoon after a cable wire of a cargo ropeway snapped at the Shaktipeeth site on Pavagadh Hill in Panchmahal district of Gujarat, police said.
The incident took place while the construction work at the site was underway.
The cargo ropeway trolley was being used to send construction material up the hill. Its cables snapped and it fell from the fourth tower around 3:30 pm, Hindustan Times reported.
According to Inspector General of Police Godhra-Panchmahal range, Ravindra Asari, three local residents, two persons from Kashmir and a resident of Rajasthan were killed in the accident. "We are investigating the exact cause of the incident," he said.
According to Panchmahal Deputy Superintendent of Police Harsh Dudhaat, the accident took place when the construction work was underway at the site.
Meanwhile, Panchmahal district administration has ordered a thorough probe into the matter. The enquiry will be conducted to determine the actual cause of the accident "Officials are examining whether the trolley was carrying material beyond its load capacity and if there were lapses in routine checks," an official said.
