Singer Quratulain Balouch, who rose to fame with the drama Humsafar’s title song Woh Humsafar Tha, has been injured in Deosai National Park. She was attacked by a rare brown bear.
Police in Gilgit-Baltistan said Balouch was in the camping area with two companions. A brown bear suddenly appeared and attacked her. Both of her arms were injured in the attack.
Her cries for help brought people from nearby camps. They managed to chase the bear away and saved her life.
She was taken to RHQ Hospital Skardu for medical treatment. Hospital officials confirmed that her condition is stable and out of danger.
According to police spokesperson Ghulam Muhammad, brown bears often move towards the Bara Pani area. He said there have been attacks in this region before.
Deosai is home to the rare Himalayan brown bear. Around 77 bears are believed to live there. They usually survive by catching fish in rivers and streams.
Deosai National Park is a high-altitude plateau. It lies between Skardu and Astore, near Nanga Parbat and the Karakoram Range. The park covers more than 358,000 hectares. Its altitude ranges from 3,500 to 5,200 meters.
The park is famous for its rolling grasslands, wildlife, and natural beauty. It is home to marmots, brown bears, and other rare species. Tourists from Pakistan and abroad visit every summer to explore the landscapes.
Balouch had arrived in Deosai with her team. They planned to film the natural scenery of the area.
Police have started an investigation. They urged tourists to avoid camping at night. Officials advised visitors to stay in hotels or secure locations instead.
The provincial government has also responded. Its spokesperson said camping in Deosai is now banned. Tourists will not be allowed to set up camps overnight.
