Warning Against Communal Sentiments
On Sunday, Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan cautioned that certain selfish individuals are deliberately attempting to sow discord by spreading communal sentiments within society.
In a post on Facebook, he stated, 'Some individuals propagate the notion that caste is superior to humanity, and such ideas are gaining traction even in a state like Kerala, which once eradicated superstitions and social evils rooted in religion and caste.'
Commemorating a Great Reformer
Vijayan made these remarks while commemorating the 171st birth anniversary of the 20th-century saint and social reformer, Sri Narayana Guru. In his Facebook post, the Chief Minister honored Guru as a significant reformer who advocated for unity through knowledge and encouraged people to rise above caste and religion.
He noted that today, communal forces are attempting to appropriate Narayana Guru's legacy for their own purposes. The leftist leader remembered Guru as a reformer who openly challenged the dominance of higher castes and fought against social evils, as well as the atrocities and economic exploitation based on caste.
Inspiration for Unity
In a post on 'X', the Chief Minister remarked, 'On the occasion of Sri Narayana Guru's birth anniversary, we remember the great reformer who imparted the message of unity and rising above caste and religion. His vision of recognizing humanity as one continues to inspire Kerala's renaissance and motivates us to combat divisive forces.'
