
Internationally acclaimed Pakistani singer Ali Sethi recently won $100 in a fun music guessing challenge on the streets of New York—all thanks to his deep admiration for the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
A video of the encounter has gone viral across multiple social media platforms, showing Ali Sethi casually walking through the streets of New York before being stopped by popular content creator Shaun Rizwan. Known for his engaging public challenges, Shaun typically approaches random people and asks them to identify three songs by their favorite singer based on short musical clips. Those who guess all three correctly receive a $100 cash prize.
When Shaun encountered Ali Sethi, he was unaware of the Pakistani singer’s identity at first. He asked him about his favorite artist, to which Sethi replied without hesitation: “Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.” Shaun then proceeded to play three short instrumental clips of Nusrat’s classic tracks and challenged Sethi to identify them.
The first tune played was from the iconic qawwali Afreen Afreenwhich Sethi instantly recognized within seconds. Impressed, Shaun asked for his name, at which point Sethi introduced himself. His identity added an extra layer of excitement to the video, especially for fans who recognized him immediately.
The next two tracks—Mast Mast (also known as Dum mast Qalandar) and Mast Nazron Se Allah Bachaye—were also correctly identified by Sethi almost instantly. Not only did he name the songs, but he also hummed along to the melodies, showcasing his deep familiarity with the legendary singer’s work.
