New Delhi: The legal battle in Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore property has now taken a new turn. During the hearing on Wednesday (September 10) at the Delhi High Court, claims were made that the late industrialist was helping his ex-wife Karisma Kapoor and their kids to get Portuguese citizenship.

According to the documents that have been submitted to the Court, Sunjay Kapur was in the process of securing Portuguese citizenship for Karisma Kapoor and their kids, Samaira and Kiaan.

Was Sunjay Lime Helping Karisma Get Portuguese Citizenship?

According to a report by News 18, the court documents show that Sunjay Kapur was in touch with Karisma via WhatsApp chats. The documents filed by the actress’s children suggest regular discussions between the estranged couple. According to the documents, Sunjay was assisting Karisma and their children in obtaining Portuguese citizenship, and they were in the process of securing foreign nationality for the family.

Additionally, one of the chats also claims that Sunjay told Karisma that she would have to give up her Indian citizenship to obtain a Portuguese passport, as India doesn’t allow dual citizenship. The records will be examined by the Delhi High Court as the case progresses.

Meanwhile, Sunjay Kapur’s wife Priya Sachdev claimed that Karisma Kapoor’s kids have already received Rs 1,900 crore from their late father’s share.

Karisma Kapoor’s children have sought a share in their late father’s estate and accused their stepmother, Priya, of “forging” the Will and excluding them from the inheritance. During the hearing, Priya’s lawyer Rajiv Nayar also questioned Karisma and said that she had been “nowhere to be seen in the last 15 years”.

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur were married from 2003 to 2016. Sunjay died on June 12, 2025, during a polo match in England.
