After clearance from the Aviation Ministry, IndiGo appoints Amitabh Kant as Additional Director

Amitabh Kant Joins IndiGo Board: IndiGo on Wednesday announced that Amitabh Kant, former CEO of NITI Aayog and India's G20 Sherpa, has been appointed as an additional director on the company's board with effect from September 15. The appointment follows security clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Amitabh Kant became the additional director.

The airline's parent company, InterGlobe Aviation, said in a stock exchange filing, "The company has received the necessary security clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation on September 16, 2025. Therefore, the appointment of Amitabh Kant will be effective from September 15, 2025." Kant has been appointed as an additional director in the form of a non-executive, non-independent director from the date of security clearance from the ministry.

 

Amitabh Kant is known as a senior administrator and policy expert. As CEO of NITI Aayog, he played a key role in advancing the country's startup ecosystem, digitization, and sustainable development agenda. Recently, as India's G20 Sherpa, he presented India's economic and strategic policies globally.

Fleet of over 350 aircraft

IndiGo is currently India's largest airline, with a domestic market share of over 60%. The company has a fleet of over 350 aircraft and flies to over 80 domestic and international destinations. IndiGo plans to further strengthen its international presence in the coming years, particularly in the Asia-Pacific, European, and Middle Eastern markets.

Aviation industry experts believe that Amitabh Kant's appointment will help provide strategic direction to IndiGo, as well as strengthen the company's global strategies and expansion plans.
