Delhi News: A big accident occurred during sewer cleaning in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. One employee died due to poisonous gas while cleaning, while three others became seriously ill.
Delhi News: A big accident occurred during the late night cleaning in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. Arvind, a 40 -year -old sweeper, died after being hit by poisonous gas coming out of the sewer, while three other employees became ill. All are being treated in the hospital. The accident occurred at around 12 pm when sewer was being cleaned near an apartment. Suddenly poisonous gas started coming out and the employees were hit by it.
Why does toxic gas come out of sewer?
The dirt and organic materials present in the sewer rot and cause poisonous gases. In oxygen deficiency, gases such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), methane (ch₄) and carbon dioxide (co₂) are made when there is a decomposition of stools, food waste and dirt by bacteria. Of these, hydrogen sulfide is extremely dangerous and its smell is like rotten eggs. Apart from this, the detergents, industrial waste and chemicals present in the sewer also cause poisonous gases like ammonia (NH₃) and chlorine.
Accidents have happened before
This is not the first case. Many times in the country, cleaning workers have died due to poisonous gases of sewer. Despite this, serious steps have not been taken regarding this problem. If concrete arrangements were made in time, then perhaps many lives could be saved.
