GST Cut Rate: Taxes will be reduced on everything from everyday items to electronic goods. Previously, taxes were levied at 12% or 28%, but now these have been categorized as 5% or 18%.
GST Cut Rate: The Central Government has given a significant gift to the general public. The Central Government has issued a notification regarding the new GST rates. The new rates will become effective from September 22nd. According to the notification, goods will now be available at the new rates. It should be noted that in the GST Council meeting held on September 3, 2025, it was decided that there will no longer be four GST rates in the country: 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, but only two rates: 5% and 18%.
This government decision will make many items cheaper, such as oil, soap, shampoo, milk, butter, ghee, TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, ACs, bikes, and cars. These items have been categorized as 5% or 18%. This change will come into effect from September 22, 2025. However, many people are wondering what to do if a shopkeeper continues to sell goods at the old rate even after the GST cut. In such a situation, you have the legal right to complain. So, let's explore where to complain if a shopkeeper doesn't reduce prices even after September 22.
Where to complain if a shopkeeper doesn't reduce prices
1. National Consumer Helpline (NCH) - The government has provided the National Consumer Helpline (NCH), where you can easily lodge a complaint. You can directly report your problem by calling the toll-free number 1800-11-4000 or 1915. You can also complain via WhatsApp at 8800001915.
2. File a complaint through the website - You can also file a complaint by visiting the National Consumer Helpline's official website, https://consumerhelpline.gov.in/public/. To file a complaint, first sign up on the website, then log in and select the Register Grievance option. Provide complete details about your complaint, upload supporting documents, and submit your complaint. You will then receive a docket number. You can also track your complaint using this number.
3. File a complaint through the mobile app - Download the NCH mobile app from the Google Play Store or App Store. Register, log in, and file your complaint. You can also file a complaint through the UMANG app. Select the Consumer Complaints option in the UMANG app and file your complaint.
How to file a complaint with the Consumer Forum?
When you file a complaint, NCH forwards your complaint to the relevant company or shopkeeper. The company is then required to respond to your complaint. If you don't receive a response, you can proceed to the Consumer Forum. You no longer need to file a complaint in the same city as the shopkeeper or company. You can file a complaint with any Consumer Forum in your city or state.
Forum information is available in the Forums section of the website https://consumerhelpline.gov.in/public/. You can then file your complaint.
