The Professional football league have released an official statement on Sunday afternoon, announcing that tonight’s delayed Le Classique fixture between Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain is set to be played on Monday evening. After severe weather conditions were forecasted in the Provence region, Marseille’s prefecture announced that the Classique this evening had been cancelled.
Météo France has maintained reports of heavy rain and violent thunderstorms forecast around kick-off. After a week of near-summer conditions across much of the country, storms will sweep in from Saturday evening in the west before hitting the south-east by Sunday evening. This sharp change will also bring a drop in temperatures that marks the beginning of a more autumnal spell in France.
The Classique will be the first meeting between the two sides since PSG’s historic Champions League triumph earlier this year. Luis Enrique’s side travel south in ominous form, unbeaten in Ligue 1 and fresh from a dominant display against Atalanta in Europe. Marseille come off the back of a tight but encouraging defeat to Real Madrid last Tuesday.
