How Can Pakistan Team Reach Asia Cup Final After India Loss?

The Pakistan team suffered another abject defeat against the Indian cricket team as the two teams commenced their Super 4 round of the Asia Cup on a contrasting note.

Another blockbuster Sunday brought another IND vs PAK match and another victory for India. While Pakistan put on a better batting performance this time than they had done last Sunday against the same opposition in their group clash, India were once again too good for the Men In Green.

Asked to bat first, Pakistan raced to 91/1 in 10 overs, with Jasprit Bumrah having an off day and the Indian fielders giving multiple reprieves. However, India regrouped at the mid-innings break and applied the brakes on Pakistan’s run-scoring from then on, conceding only 80 runs in the last 10 overs.

Any hopes of a Pakistani win were dashed quickly by Abhishek Sharma’s ballistic knock. The young India left-handed opener hammered 74 runs off 39 balls and forged a century opening partnership inside nine overs with Shubman Gill, who silenced his doubters with a classy yet aggressive knock of 47 runs off 28 deliveries.

Tilak Varma played a terrific hand as well, whacking 30* off 19 balls to seal the victory for India with six wickets in hand and seven balls to spare.

This was the second game of the Super 4 round. On Saturday, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets.

How Can Pakistan Team Reach Asia Cup Final After Defeat Against India?

Yes, despite a defeat against India in the Super 4 match, Pakistan can reach the final of the Asia Cup. For that, Pakistan will have to win their remaining two matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and hope that India also beat Bangladesh.

If Bangladesh beat India but lose to Pakistan, and India beat Sri Lanka, that will mean three teams will be at four points, which will bring net run rate into consideration.

If India win both their matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, then Pakistan’s match against Bangladesh will be a virtual knockout match. If Pakistan lose to Sri Lanka but beat Bangladesh, then they will have to hope that both those teams lose to India, and then net run rate will be the deciding factor, as these three sides will have two points each.

In short, despite the loss to India, Pakistan still have their fate in their own hands, and they have to win their matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and just hope India beat Bangladesh. That is the straightforward scenario for Pakistan to reach the Asia Cup final.
