Approximately 49 percent of people use ChatGPT to ask questions, and approximately 40 percent use ChatGPT for work assistance (e.g., writing emails, planning, etc.). Approximately 11 percent use ChatGPT for personal communication.

The OpenAI Economic Research Team, in collaboration with Harvard economist David Deming, released a working paper. According to this paper, most users use ChatGPT to ask questions, receive practical guidance, and use it as a writing assistant.
