Zubeen Garg, the renowned Indian singer who rose to fame with the hit song “Ya Ali” from Bollywood actor Imran Hashmi’s popular film Gangster, passed away recently. His body’s arrival in India from Singapore drew massive crowds, with even police officers seen shedding tears.

According to Indian news outlets after Zubeen Garg’s body reached India, a second post-mortem was conducted to determine the exact cause of his death. The body arrived at Guwahati airport, where long queues of mourners gathered to pay their respects. The Assam state government had already declared a three-day official mourning period.

Authorities in Assam suspect foul play may have been involved in Zubeen Garg’s death, which led to the expedited post-mortem and investigation by the police.

Following Zubeen Garg’s wishes, his burial will take place in his hometown beside a riverbank, where the government has allocated six acres of land to build a memorial in his honor.

The Times Now reported that on September 23rd, all government and private schools, colleges, and offices in Assam will remain closed for his last rites. The funeral ceremony will be held on the outskirts of Guwahati.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the burial will be a simple affair. Only a small bus carrying Zubeen Garg’s wife, close relatives, and friends will accompany the ambulance carrying his body. No other vehicles will join the procession, as per the family’s wishes.

Meanwhile, indian TV reported that upon the arrival of Zubeen Garg’s body in Guwahati, thousands of people formed queues stretching up to four kilometers. The scene was deeply emotional, with family members, friends, common people, and even police officers breaking down in tears.

Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19th during a scuba diving incident in Singapore. He was scheduled to perform at musical shows on September 20th and 21st there.
